BHSU Fallbeck and Timmons Academic Scholarship

The recipient(s) must be a non-traditional full-time undergraduate student and have completed a minimum of 45 college credit hours. Applicants will have completed a minimum of 15 college credit hours to be eligible. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall grade point average (GPA) at or above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for post-secondary credit hours. A high school transcript may also be submitted to support the applicant's academic qualifications. If awarded, a student is eligible to apply for subsequent Fallbeck/Timmons Scholarship for following semesters provided she or he meets the criteria. The amount awarded and the number of the scholarships are determined by Black Hills State University Foundation that will allow the Fallbeck & Timmons Academic Scholarship awards to continue in perpetuity.  The recipient must enroll in class(es) required for an education degree program offered at Black Hills State University. Previous academic performance and current financial need are the primary considerations in awarding scholarships. The applicant must Order and submit necessary transcripts of all college credits Submit a high school transcript (Optional) Submit two to four letters of recommendation with at least one of those letters being from a person familiar with the applicant's academic qualifications Prepare a personal statement in 1,000 words or less on the following questions. <ul> <li>Explain their reasons for attending college</li> <li>Explain why she/he choose their course of study</li> <li>Explain what their career goals</li> </ul> Submit an essay of no more than 500 words on the following topic: <ul> <li>The difficulties a non-traditional student faces when returning to college. My plan for overcoming those difficulties and how this scholarship will help me implement my plan.</li> </ul>

This scholarship is available to students who participate in the Belle Fourche Cowboy Band and/or the Northern Hills Community Band. Priority will be given to students who participate in both bands over students who only participate in one or the other. Students who participate in other local community bands may be considered if there is no other candidate that meets the criteria. To be eligible, student's application must indicate in which group(s) they participated and when. Preference will go to the student with the most experience in these groups and also to music majors/minors at BHSU. Money will only be awarded using the criterion and funds will remain to build the endowment when no applicant meets the criteria. All students are eligible and may receive it multiple years if deserving. The BHSU music department is responsible for soliciting applications and for confirming participation in the designated community bands. The goal of this scholarship is to foster participation in bands beyond the school music program with the idea that BHSU students can meld their community band experiences into social as well as musical ones, developing lifelong friends and at the same time financially benefiting university music department students. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Full-time enrollment.
